Kiteboarding in the North Sea & Baltic Sea in the very north of Europe? We dit it!
In the north of Denmark, there's a beach well known for wave surfing (Klitmøller). Locals proudly call it "Cold Hawai". Following this idea, we would calll Denmark the "Cold Brazil" for kiteboarding. And to tell the whole truth, I set up this little list of facts and feelings after having spent 3 weeks there this summer.

The truth about kiteboarding in Denmark:
An endless number of perfect flat water spots...
As well as wave spots. You would need more than a whole summer to discover all of the great kite beaches, fjords, lagoons and sandbanks.
It's like autumn/winter vacation even in August
Because the sun is very low and IT IS COLD (13 – 20 degrees in summer)
Sometimes it feels like riding in a black & white movie
When it’s cloudy, light and colours suddenly disappear
There are spots for any wind direction
You can choose the North Sea for westerly winds and the Baltic Sea for easterly winds or go to one of the islands
There's always more than one flat water spot for every wind direction
A lot of space on the water
We’ve never been to a place before with so much space to freestyle and so few people
Often you're alone at the spot so you better know how to launch your kite on your own
It’s never overpacked with Kite schools
No kite restrictions
No need to search for "the kite zone”, just pump your kite wherever you want at the next ncie looking fjord
No issues with tourist crowds on the beaches that could keep you from launching a kite
In only very few places kiteboarding is prohibited for birds or hunting (selected areas & precise dates)
Is not about one dominating wind direction
There no danish "mistral" or "levante" . Wind blows from every possible direction as it comes with the weather
It can change during the day & even during your session. (It's sometimes disturbed by the rain)
It can be everthing from very strong to very light (we used all our kites from 7m - 13m)
No sand sticking on your kite
Most of the launching areas are on soft green grass fields
There are often several rain showers per day
Forget about trying to dry your wetsuit outside
The rain can stop the wind or make it go crazy
Means wearing a 5/3 wetsuit in August
It's not the right place to take sexy kite pics in bikinis
It’s for those who are truly interested in good kiteboarding, no matter the weather
You'll have seagrass in your lines and on all over your body when crashing your kite
Especially at the Ringkøbing Fjord
But you won't mind as the seagrass is making the water glassy flat even in strong winds
It’s not so much about partying on the beach
Expect when you’re in Kloster with the right people :-)
